Maggie Barrington

About Maggie

Maggie completed her first Bachelor qualification in Social Work at the University of Adelaide. Complementing this degree, Maggie has added AMHSW (Australian Mental Health Social Worker) a Cert IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, a Bachelor of Education. 

With more than 20 years of social work experience over a variety of professional roles, Maggie has worked a Senior Social Work Clinician fulfilling leadership, supervision and clinical roles within the areas of acute medical,  trauma/critical incident response, disability and Employee Assistance Programs settings.

Maggie is a public speaker and educator who is experienced in workplace training for resilience, conflict resolution, suicide and domestic violence awareness, as well as general mental health and well-being strategies.  

Maggie has delivered workshops and training sessions to a broad range of professionals within the areas of state and local government, primary, senior and tertiary educational sectors, SA Health, NDIS, corporate business and  not for profit sectors. 

As a counsellor, Maggie is skilled in using a variety of evidence based approaches to assist individuals, couples and families navigate their way through difficult personal situations to achieve their desired outcomes.

In doing this Maggie uses a variety of techniques  including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Strengths Based Interventions, Gottman's Relationship Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Counselling, Crisis Intervention, Narrative Therapy, and a Recovery.
